CBN has enabled us to feel part of a much larger 'family' of services

Current work

Our activities support our mission to improve the access of bereaved children and young people to information, guidance and support. They include:

  • providing networking and information sharing opportunities for CBN Subscribers
  • promoting the development of best practice
  • encouraging the expansion of services and opportunities for bereaved children and young people
  • developing a range of resources for bereaved children and young people and those working with them
  • signposting professionals and bereaved families to local and national sources of support
  • working with Parliament and Government to develop policy which improves the range, quality and accessibility of bereavement support to bereaved children and young people.

Our current projects include:

Grief Matters for Children

This major three year campaign, funded by the Diana , Princess of Wales Memorial Fund aims to raise awareness of bereaved children and young people's needs, and to generate support for them

'Grief and the teenager'

This project in partnership with Leeds Animation Workshop, the Laura Centre, the University of Leicester School of Education and Family Care is producing an animated DVD and training pack for people caring for bereaved young people.

Developing a strategy for evaluating childhood bereavement services

Led by Liz Rolls at the University of Gloucestershire, this project will create an agenda for multi-perspective evaluation of services.

Past work

Projects which we have now completed include:

Supporting Service Development and Best Practice Guidelines for Bereavement Care for children and young people

This major three year project supported the development of services and expanded a framework for professional practice in childhood bereavement services.

'Not Too Young To Grieve'

This project in partnership with Leeds Animation Workshop, the Laura Centre and the University of Leicester produced an animated DVD for people caring for bereaved children under 5.

Supporting parents and carers of bereaved children

In partnership with Winston's Wish and other CBN subscribers, this project disseminated models of good practice in working with parents and carers of children who have been bereaved.
