YOUNG PEOPLE FACING BEREAVEMENT

A course for those who work directly with young people aged 11-18 and who wish to learn more about their needs in facing bereavement.  We will be looking at how young people grieve, different approaches and skills in supporting them and difficult issues such as sudden death.  The following topics will be covered: Exploring how grief and adolescence combine; Direct work with young people; Managing our own feelings; Young people in the family.  This day will be of particular interest to: youth workers; school staff; teachers and educationalists; social workers; bereavement services; clergy; healthcare professionals.

DYING MATTERS IN DEVON

The conference will:

- Provide an opportunity to hear from some experts on end of life care
- Explore attitude to death, dying and bereavement

- Examine how awareness can be raised around end of life issues and also change behaviours for the better

CREATIVE WAYS OF HELPING BEREAVED CHILDREN AND YOUNG PEOPLE

A very practical workshop which explores creative ways of helping children and young people express themselves and communicate when someone important in their life is dying or has died.  Target audience: suitable for those whose work includes contact with families where children are bereaved.

- Dr Bill Webster, Grief Counsellor and well known International Speaker from Canada who will be discussing group support for bereaved people.
- Jim Kuykendall, International Lecturer on the subject of bereavement, trained in bereavement process under the renowned Dr Elizabeth Kubler-Ross – subject to be confirmed.
