Enter event details 12 January 2012Supporting Bereaved Children and Young PeopleThe study day will help to develop confidence, skills and practical techniques to use in supporting a bereaved child. It introduces bereavement and developmental theory and research; enables opportunities to learn from what children and young people have said and hands on memory work. You will learn how to support and enable children to express and manage their grief and how to have meaningful conversations about death and dying. Looking after yourself and developing your emotional resilience is also an important theme and also, how Winston's Wish can support you in your work. This study day is ideally suited to front-line professionals in health and children's workforce, schools, voluntary sector and other agencies who may have little or no previous bereavement training.
19 January 2012 Primary and Secondary Schools and BereavementA day for school based staff whose work brings them into contact with bereaved children. Topics will include: children and young people’s understanding of and responses to the terminal illness and death of a parent or carer; other losses e.g. of siblings, of school friends; what schools can do to help bereaved children; and dealing with crisis and critical incidents.

Suitable for professionals in health and social care and for those in the voluntary sector who work with families where a parent or prime carer is facing a life-threatening illness.
